Prof. Dr.-Ing. Achim Kampker is university professor of production management in the faculty of mechanical engeneering at RWTH Aachen since April 2009. From 2009 until 2013, he was leading the chair of production management at the Laboratory for Machine Tools and Production Engineering or WZL. In January 2014 he has founded the new Chair Production Engineering of E-mobility Components, PEM.

Professor Chair of Production Engineering of E-Mobility Components (PEM) (since 2014)
The PEM chair researches all topics of the automotive value chain in the field of electromobility and has great success in numerous projects in the areas of battery production, electric powertrain, automotive assembly, body shop, plastic components and autonomous systems. These include the ACM II eTaxi as an emission-free overall system for cities - the autonomous taxi is already being tested in road traffic; research into measures to increase material and process efficiency in lithium-ion battery cell production across the entire value-added chain (FAB4LIB) - in this context, German large-scale cell production was initiated; the remanufacturing of lithium-ion batteries (BattReMan); the reduction of life cycle costs in electric distribution transport through individually adaptable drive trains (LiVe) - within the framework of this project, an electric truck was developed; and numerous others.
Even before his time as chair holder of the PEM at RWTH Aachen University, his inclination towards electromobility was evident: Since 2009, Prof. Kampker had been chairman of the e-mobility office at RWTH Aachen University. At that time, he was professor and holder of the Chair of Production Management at the Laboratory for Machine Tools and Production Engineering (WZL) of RWTH Aachen University (2009-2013) and was already working intensively on the topic of electric vehicle production. Since 2009, he has also been a member of the board of the "Mobility and Transport" forum at RWTH Aachen University.
CEO StreetScooter GmbH (2010-2019)
Prof. Kampker was co-founder of StreetScooter GmbH, which develops and manufactures the StreetScooter, a commercial vehicle that is now used successfully and thousands of times in road traffic. The company, which emerged from a project initiated by Prof. Kampker, was bought by the Deutsche Post DHL Group in 2014. Kampker, the face of the StreetScooter, was instrumental in the success. From the very beginning, he was involved as project manager of the "StreetScooter - Integrated Product and Process Design of Electric Vehicles" division (since 2009).
In the book Think Big Start Small - StreetScooter die e-mobile success story (published 2017 by Springerverlag), Kampker and the core team that drove the project forward talk about their innovative concept.
Involvement in numerous other projects
In addition to his teaching activities, he is also involved in numerous other projects. These include his work as a member of Agora Verkehrswende, an initiative with the aim of promoting the conversion to a climate-friendly and sustainable transport system. He is also involved in the National Platform for Electric Mobility, which aims to develop Germany into a leading provider and market for electric mobility. Prof. Kampker is head of Focus Group 2. Furthermore, Prof. Kampker was appointed to the Expert Council on Electromobility of the State Government of North Rhine-Westphalia around Prime Minister Armin Laschet, who in regular meetings obtains an overview of the current state of research in order to identify points of contact for the state government.
CEO of Jüpo GmbH (2006-2009)
As CEO of Jüpo GmbH, which at that time employed 400 people and had a turnover of 25 million, he ensured sales growth of 30 percent by establishing a sales structure and winning new customers. Prof. Kampker built up and expanded many areas of the company and founded locations in Eastern Europe and China as well as a development location in Aachen.
Prof. Kampker was, among other things, managing chief engineer of the Chair of Production Systems (2006). There he was responsible for more than 40 scientific employees. From 2004 to 2006 he was also chief engineer in the area of production management. He introduced the lecture "Strategies in the automotive industry" and the topic of plant management.
Doctorate with honors
As part of his doctorate, he was awarded the Borchers-Badge of RWTH Aachen University, an award for outstanding scientific achievements (2005). From 2000 to 2006 he was a research assistant at the Chair of Production Systems at WZL RWTH Aachen University. There he worked as a group leader in the field of process and technology planning (2002-2003) and founded and led the group Change Management (2003-2004). In this context he established the topic Global Production / Global Footprint.
Prof. Kampker carried out studies within the scope of numerous industrial and research projects in connection with various stays abroad in Japan, South Africa as well as Europe-wide. These include "Profitable growth strategies in mechanical and plant engineering" and "Tomorrow's Automotive Production" in cooperation with McKinsey & Company as well as "Global Footprint Design" with Roland Berger.
