Mobility concept of the future
The Institute PEM (Production Engineering of E-Mobility Components) of the RWTH Aachen University and Velocity are investigating the usage behaviour of new mobility concepts together with the Ford Research And Innovation Center Aachen. The research team aims to gain a better understanding of the relationships between different routes in order to gain important insights into the development of a traffic model. The aim is to identify potential of improvement for the mobility of the future of the city of Aachen.
+++ From 08.01.2018 to 09.25.2018 the citizens of Aachen have the opportunity to help to shape the future of mobility for Aachen in a demand-oriented way +++PEM
The mobility of tomorrow must be fast, flexible and above all demand-oriented in order to keep pace with technological change. PEM, Velocity and Ford aim to understand the mobility behaviour of Aachen citizens on the basis of real data. Based on this, conclusions and recommendations for improvements in the Aachen transport system are to be developed. A transport model for the city of Aachen is to be developed in order to better analyse the factors influencing the user behaviour of different modes of transport. This will help to improve transport services in the future and make trips through the city safer and faster.
- Representation of the status quo of the traffic behaviour of the citizens of Aachen
- Development of a transport model for a better understanding of path relations
- Identification of potentials for a faster, safer and demand-oriented mobility offer
- Deriving recommendations of action for the city of Aachen, Velocity and other mobility service providers
In order to obtain suitable data for the project, the research team relies on the support of the citizens of Aachen. Between 08.01.2018 and 09.25.2018 participants can record their mobility behaviour over a period of 10 days. This is possible via the mobile app modalyzer, which is available for iOS and Android operating systems. After the admission phase, citizens can actively "donate" their data to the research project. No personal data is transmitted and it is up to the participants whether and which data they pass on. The active participation of citizens makes it possible to use the data to predict how traffic lights can be operated to improve traffic flow or where cycle paths and roads should be extended. For example, new e-bike rental stations can be strategically positioned according to the use of the means of transport.
The tracking weeks from 08.01.2018 to 09.25.2018 help the researchers to map the current status of mobility behaviour and to derive recommendations of action for the city of Aachen, Velocity and other mobility service providers. Subsequently, a second tracking phase is planned for next year, during which the findings will be further tested. Here, for example, it could be investigated how the Velocity system can be further improved and extended by dynamic price adjustment for the benefit of users.
You live, work or move in the city region of Aachen and want to help shape the mobility of tomorrow? Then you can record your mobility behaviour over a period of 10 days between 08.01.2018 and 09.25.2018 and "donate" them to the research project.
It's that simple:
- Download the modalyzer app for Android or iOS.
- register on www.modalyzer.com and create your personal account.
- log in on the homepage and click on "Participate" in the right column.
Activate modalyzer whenever possible and edit your paths in the app or on the homepage.
