BatterI4.0
PEM Develops Guidelines on Digitization in Battery Cell Production
In the "BatterI4.0" project, the "Production Engineering of E-Mobility Components" (PEM) chair of RWTH Aachen University is dedicated to researching and developing a guideline for the systematic implementation of digitization and "Industry 4.0" in battery cell production. The guideline developed with three other production technology institutes from the universities of Braunschweig, Karlsruhe and Munich is intended to enable companies to increase the competitiveness of their battery cell production quickly and effectively. The project is part of the federally funded competence cluster "Intelligent Battery Cell Production" (InZePro). The background to "BatterI4.0" is that, to date, concepts for the holistic and rapid implementation of digitization and "Industry 4.0" in battery cell production are lacking. To date, there is also no tool for evaluating and locating existing technologies with regard to digitization and "Industry 4.0". The same applies to approaches for generating new ideas and solutions.
Holistic evaluation of existing technologies
The digitization guide is to be built up from collections of methods – so-called toolkits – in the four areas of "machine and plant technology", "quality management", "process technology" and "planning, control and logistics". This is intended to fully cover the production engineering areas of battery cell manufacturing. Using the toolkits, it should be possible to holistically locate and evaluate technologies in existing battery cell production facilities in order to quickly and systematically introduce digitization and "Industry 4.0" into plants and process chains. The project is also intended to support the development of new ideas with a view to future plant generations. The results are expected to produce increased competitiveness and the improvement of process and plant monitoring – among other things to avoid rejects and increase resource efficiency.
