PEM Collaborates in Teaching with University of Münster

14/11/2023

The Chair of Production Engineering of E-Mobility Components (PEM) of RWTH Aachen University is working together with the University of Münster in the area of teaching. On request, the content of the Aachen lecture "Production of Electric Storage Systems" (HEE) by PEM management member Professor Heiner Heimes will now also be taught at the University of Münster, which is one of the largest universities in Germany.

Entire value chain of the lithium-ion battery

With its HEE lecture, PEM provides insights into the lithium-ion battery value chain. Starting with its areas of application and how it works, the lecture highlights the production process from the components of the individual battery cells to the assembly of the complete battery pack. This also includes overarching topics such as factory planning, quality assurance, and battery safety tests. The lecture also provides an overview of recycling options for lithium-ion batteries.

Mutual involvement in Fraunhofer FBB

To kick off the collaboration, Professor Heimes traveled to Münster to give the first lecture in the HEE series, which will be continued by Professor Simon Lux, holder of the Chair of Applied Electrochemical Energy Storage Technology and Business Chemistry at the University of Münster. In the future, the collaboration will work in both directions: Content additions from Münster should then also find their way to Aachen. PEM of RWTH Aachen University is also linked to the University of Münster through the mutual involvement in the Fraunhofer Research Institution for Battery Cell Production FFB in Münster.
